Title:
US-POLITICS
Text:
I have been following some of the debate on government vs industry policing
the providers of O & P services. As practitioner in Florida, a state that
has a license in place, I would like to put forth 2 points:
1: although the state of Florida enforces the decisions of the board of P &
O, the board of P & O is staffed by prosthetists/orthotists, an orthopedic
physician, and a consumer. Is this not self determination ?
2: the decisions of the board are enforced by the FDLE (Florida Department of
Law Enforcement). These folks have the ability to shut down a practitioner.
None of the certifying agencies have this ability. If I loose my ABC
certification, it's business as usual, but, if the FDLE padlocks my door, I'm
out of business! (there is a bite behind that bark!)
