Title:
Follow up to Ertl Procedure/ TibioFibular Synostosis
Text:
Thank you all that responded so quickly to my request for assistance. I
spoke with the surgeons yesterday. They think they will have to use a
portion of the iliac crest as the graft. Because of the location of the
tumor they are concerned about using any of the tibia or fibula close to the
tumor. They are keeping all options open and will make the final decision
during the surgery. I will be observing the procedure and then placing the
post op cast.
For those requesting more information.
Dr. John Ertl is retired and lives in Illinois, USA. His son is a Professor

Sacramento, California 95825 phone # 916-973-5931. Dr. Ertl and Jan Stokosa
C.P. will be speaking on the technique and prosthetic options for it at the
International Conference of Advanced Prosthetics April 27 & 28. Contact
Flex-Foot for more info.
Raymond Francis C.P. at Ohio Willow Wood is a wealth of information and can
be reached at 1-800-848-4930. He also has a very nice skeletal model of the
synostosis using the fibula.
Dr. Lew Schoen and Aircast have produced a video showing the surgery and
followup with a pneumatic post-op socket.
TEC Interface systems has a video of the procedure performed by Dr. Marco
Guedes in Brazil.
The Atlas of Limb Prosthetics 2nd edition sponsored by the American Society
of Orthopaedic Surgeons and published in 1992 by Mosby Year Book has a
description on pp 442-445. The editors are John Bowker M.D. and John Michael
C.P.O.
Thank you again.
