Dear Al,
I fell a few weeks ago, can you believe I cracked the wooden spacer on a
SACH foot!! Coming down I twisted and threw the entire alignment off at
the ankle and above the knee. It was a sign from heaven that it was time
for a change. Would you please post this question to the O&P list. Thanks.
I am a hemipelvectomy and just had a Century XXII foot installed on my
prosthesis. After 38 years of wearing a SACH foot, the extra motion will
require some getting used to, but the ride is much smoother. As a
admitted shoe freak, the heel height adjustment feature is awesome, kudos
to the folks at Century XXII, it performs as advertised! My other
components from foot up are the Century XXII shock/torque which was
inverted to fit in with a Teh Lin 4 bar knee and Otto Bock 7E5 hip with
manual lock. The full length foam cover is detachable at the hip, and the
foot needs to be removed in order to slide the cover down and off for
maintanance and repair.
What is the best, most practical way of achieving cosmesis at the ankle,
while allowing for easy access to the button adjustment? We don't want to
glue anything down permanently since the foot will have to come off
occasionally. If a soft foam spacer is placed at the ankle, how can this
attach to the base of the foam cover and still detach? Is it possible or
better to attach a plastic plate to the top of the foot shell which clicks
into the end of the cover as with the SACH? My current plastic plate was
too narrow to accommodate the ankle mechanism. I intend to change from 1/2
inch heels to 1 1/2 max, so I won't be stretching the foam at the ankle
excessively.
Any suggestions are welcome. My CP is not computer literate, please send
your suggestions to the address above. Thank you,
Christina Skoski MD
