House Bill #337 was defeated yesterday at the Committee on Health Care
Licensing & Regulation hearings in Tallahassee!!
> The 1997 successfull O&P regulation legislation was under siege by a few
> whom have failed or do not wish to take ANY entrance qualification exam to
> determine a candidate's competency to become a licensed O&P health
> care provider.
>
> Out of state unlicensed practitioners could of also been exempt and
allowed to practice in Florida.
>
> This bill amendment could of allowed unqualified practitioners to treat
children
> and adults with orthopedic disabilities, and removes the current
requirement
> of both formal education and examination.
Thank you everyone, practitioners and consumers for your support in
defeating this effort to weaken the O&P regulation legislation that has been
used as model licensure legislation for other states.
Your letters and telephone calls to the committee members made a impact to
reinforce their initial legislative wisdom in passing Fla Statue 468.805 in
1997.
