Dear all,
In response to my comment about 'searching the database' I have received
some requests on how this can be done. There are a few options; I will give
a summary.
First, if you go to the oandp-l web-site at
<URL Redacted> you will find a link called View the
log of past discussions on OANDP-L. However, I just checked it and noticed
it is not very user-friendly, in the sense that they list all messages by
month, I am not aware of a searching mechanism.
Second, you can search by e-mail. There is some general info you can get by
sending commands to the list-server (NOT the forum) <Email Address Redacted>
Some of the commands (to be sent in the body of the message) are listed
below, with the response which will be sent as an e-mail message :
help get general info
INFO REFcard file LISTSERV REFCARD, command reference card
INFO GENintro file LISTSERV MEMO, general information about LISTSERV
The document LISTSERV MEMO gives syntax information on how to search the
database for past messages. The messages will be searched for occurence of
the desired text words.
-------------------
searching command:
search <word> [and <word>] in <listname>
retreiving command:
getpost <listname> <number>
-------------------
Below is an example of a search for messages containing the words
'politics' and 'bill':
search 'politics' and 'bill' in oandp-l
(caution, if you try this you will receive a large e-mail as response!)
the output file which you will receive looks like this:
000384 98/03/05 07:34 41 USA POLITICS- Re: Please priortize your mission!
000466 98/03/13 08:10 53 Re: U.S. Politics: *IMPORTANT* Call for
informatioon...
000468 98/03/13 08:10 45 U.S. Politics: re: Please priortize your mission!
000476 98/03/14 14:03 90 Fw: U.S. Politics: re: Please priortize your
mission!
Next, to receive the first message in the list, send the command
getpost oandp-l 384
You will then receive a copy of this posting.
Hope this is of some use.
