Solutions to sweating in Gel liners
Text:
Colleagues,
I didn't ask for permission to post answers so I will just summarize the
responses to my query.
I originally asked if there were any ideas for reducing perspiration within
the gel liners via holes in the liners or other solutions.
Solutions to excessive perspiration included
1 Using a sheath under the liner to wick out the sweat into the socket and
having an expulsion valve in the socket itself- a solution from TEC
2 Using antiperspirant
3 One innovative prosthetist actually does put holes in both AK and BK
liners with excellent success
4 It has occurred to me that if a small valve was placed at the distal end
of the pin suspension liner-right where the pin screws in, and the pin itself
was drilled out, then you would force all perspiration out of the liner and
through the pin. If you were using the Iceross offset adapter, the sweat
would go outside the pylon and prevent the internal corrosion of the pylon.
