Dear all,
To those interested in memory metal (such as nitinol), there is a web page
which can serve as an entrance to the companies involved in manufacturing
it and also to research conducted in this area. The address is:
<URL Redacted>
Some nice features of the material:
In certain compositions, it can undergo a reversible deformation of 8% (for
comparison, high strength steels may go up to at most 0.2%)
It is more biocompatible than stainless steel 316
It has shape recovery upon heating above a certain temperature, which
temperature depends on material composition and mechanical treatment / heat
treatment. However, efficiency is low: of the work you put in in the form
of heat, you may get a 5% return in mechanical output if you are lucky.
