Lisa -
It is important that all members be informed and involved in any organization
that they are a member of and pay dues to.
First, may I say that I have been on the Board of Directors for 8 years and
have felt that every other Board member is dedicated , honest and true to the
profession that we all love. We would do nothing that would jeoperdize it's
exsistance.
The National Office structure was costly and inefficient and in dire need of
repair. The outside consultants agreed with this and told us to consider
consolidation as a possible way to become more efficient and cost effective.
But this being a membership organization - it was felt that it should be the
membership who decides if we consolidate or not. Either way - we had to plan
to survive. We have spent much time taking into consideration all the areas
of operation that you have mentioned and we have found, what we feel, will be
cost effective and MORE efficient ways of handeling the daily operations and
services to the members . We expect an improved service and an improved
Academy....at least that is our plan and goal. What is important is
membership. Without membership we can do nothing. We know that we need to
give people good reasons to join the Academy and will make the benefits of
membership boldly evident. If you are concerned about your profession and
your future and your Academy - join and stay joined and become involved if
you want to. There you have a voice in what is done. It is there that you
have an opprotunity to make a difference. We are lucky in that way - that
what you do, does make a difference and you have a chance to be active and
not sit back watching things happen and complaining about them. You can't be
rowing the boat if you are too busy rocking it ! Now is the time to help
row. We can only succeed in getting somewhere if everyone rows ! If you are
concerned about the future of the Academy and your profession, Grab an oar !
