Hello!

In conversation, several O & P educators have noted a decline in the
applicant pool for the O & P schools. Coupled with the expected rise in the
number of patients as the aging population rises, this could be a cause for
concern to the profession. A decline in the number of qualified
practitioners entering the field could open the door to more unqualified
people or people in related fields caring for the increasing patient load.

What do you think? If you do feel there is/will be a shortage of certified
practitioners, why do you think this is happening? What would help
alleviate the problem?

We would very much appreciate your comments to include in an article we are
writing on this subject for the March 15 2000 issue, which will have extra
distribution at the Academy Meeting in San Diego. Please e-mail us at
<Email Address Redacted> Thank you for your input.
