I am new to this list server. This is the first time I have heard about a
amputee union. Well I think there should be a prosthetic / orthotic union.
Yeah, I feel that O and P professionals whom have to continue to invest in
their continuing education, not sell out to any manufacturers claims but make
products live up to the expectations of our patients, or clients if you like;
should be protected. Al Pike,CP is right there are not enough good people
going into the field. There is not alot of profit. I know plumbers, and
electrician contractors that make more, and don't have to carry malpractice
insurance. I love what I do, but I don't think that gives anyone the right
to reduce my ability to make a living. It is normal not to get paid on a
medical bill for 90 to 100 days. Could anyone else go without a check for
that long.
Well most professional owners are used to getting paid last. How about when
the insurance company has already discounted your bill with 20% off Medicare,
then would like to pay you this week after waiting 100 days if you take an
additional 5% off. When patients (or clients as some people want to call
themselves) go into an O and P office, how often do they add up the
co-workers health insurance plans, sick days, FICA and other witholding
taxes, malpractice, and the list goes on. Step one, two and three is to keep
a professional focus, remain objective, and keep the patients needs first.
We are not being paid for a product but a professional service. No matter
how much the component may cost, if it objectively does not live up to your
expectations it should not be used. Real professionals, and manufactuers
live up to that standard. Can you ask someone to uphold standards when they
can't make a decent living for their commitment!
I don't know...I love what I do along with many other fine professionals...I
guess we have to take it... one day at a time... and appreciate the many
patients whom give us their thanks. <Email Address Redacted>
