Summary of Responses, Bunion Socks
Text:
Bunion Socks Responses from List Serve, October 13, 1999
Here is the original question I posted a few days ago. Following it are the
responses I got. The first was a joking response from a friend; the balance
were serious responses that were quite helpful. Thank you, all.
Here is the question:
A patient came into my office today with a prescription for bunion socks,
which the patient said the doctor described as socks separating the great toe
from the other toes. In other words, something like mittens for the feet.
Anyone know where I can get them?
Thanks.

Yes, I do. You go to Walmart, buy a pair of socks, take a sewing machine,
sew a
bead 2' long where the great toe and second toe separate, and charge $85.00.
Always glad to be of help !!
maybe still your friend ....... Bob

David,
I don't know where you are, but being a west coaster I have access to
assorted Oriental shops. For years I have recommended my bunion-sox needing
patients purchase the sox that these stores sell for wearing with sandals,
In Japanese they are called tabi. They are usually 100% cotton, they have
a sole-type cloth for walking comfortably, don/doff is easy, wash simply,
and best of all they make a good base for attaching straps, elastics, or
halux valgus splints. They stay put once they are on, unlike sox with a
notch sewn in. They are easy to wear to bed or wear all day. Hope this is
some help.
