Dear List Members,
We have had occasion do deal with a few transfemoral amputees with
significant hip flexion contractures who we wish to fit with a silicone
liner and pin mechanism for suspension. The dilemma exists in aligning
the locking mechanism and the distal pyramid attachment. We have had to
attach the lock centred on the long axis of the limb but (obviously) the
alignment coupling is laminated more posteriorly through the appropriate
weight line of the limb. This is functional but uncosmetic.
Has anyone done the same? Does anyone have a better idea? Are there
other solutions? Is there a way to improve cosmetic quality? Or are
patients in this situation just simply not prescribed a prosthesis with
a silicone suspension? Indulge me on your thoughts. They will be
appreciated.
