In the United States we have a national organization that was formed for this
reason. It is called the Amputee Coalition of America. It had its origins in
the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists inviting amputees to
their annual meetings. Since that beginning in the 1980s it has grown rapidly
and held its annual meeting this past June with over 500 amputees in
attendance. Their keynote speaker Ted Kennedy, Jr.

They have a program for teaching peer visitors and should be able to help you
set up a program in your area.
