My opinion is that this is a NON-problem.....one of those things a few people 'hype' and
make bucks on.....in this case by cashing in on amputees' generally negative attitudes
toward their amputations and prostheses. I'm seven years an AK and haven't detected an odor
yet. Ordinary hygiene requires a clean socket each time it is entered, which can be assured
by a couple of squirts of isopropyl alcohol and a wipe out with a tee shirt. I'm just not
insecure about people's attitudes about me or my amputation. I think that same kind of
insecurity drives people to invest heavily in deodorants generally, egged on by marketer's
suggestions, when all you need is rational bathing habits which most people have anyway.
It's their insecurity, not their odors, which mostly is at work.
