I provided a trans metatarsal prosthesis with springlight toe plate and
Cirrus foot shell to a 21 year old male who also had a trans femoral
amputation. He was run over by an F-16 on the carrier Teddy Roosevelt
about three years ago. His emergency surgery was adequate to close the
wounds and save his life. He had sensitivity over the distal aspect of
the residual fifth metatarsal and periodic skin breakdown until I
provided prostheses and the silipos partial foot socks. They worked well
but require frequent replacement and GOOD hygiene. His mechanical bull
riding and bungy jumping activities eventually caused some skin breakdown
over the distal/lateral area of the fifth residual metatarsal which was
corrected surgically. He stated the socks were very comfortable and
continued to wear them with no further problems. I hope this helps. I
don't think using them would be overkill .
