responses: "Air purification"
Text:
Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry about an Air purification system
from Alpine Industries. I am sorry to say that I did not get any responses
that sold me on the effectiveness of this technology. Yesterday we had a
code red ozone warning in our area and I had a $900 machine on loan sitting
there in the lab that was making the stuff. ???
I posted the inquiry just before the holiday. I may try posting it again in
a few days to see if I get more information.
Thanks again,
Eddie

As far as I know, The ionification of the air is not as good as the mecanic
purification with activated carbon and other filters specially developed.
Especially in places with trafic of the chemicals that we use and solids as
the carbon fibber or fibber glass.
And beware! is very clear that the ionification of the air is usless against
the little pieces of solids
The people of American air filter can give you more information abouth it.
----------------------------
We've been using a commercial size one for about three years and love it.
Dust that normally hangs in the air for ten+ minutes falls dramatically to
the floor in less than a minute. Carbon fiber dust is gone quickly. The lab
air DOES smell better.
Carbon dust killed the machine once but we were still under warranty so the
manufacturer replaced the dead parts for free (my favorite price).
The units are not cheap... I think ours was over $300. But hey! who's
counting?
Ours is a: model Eagle 5000
---------------------------------------------------
Please let me know if you get any responses, a very good question!
---------------------------------------------------
Recently, the issue of air-quality and it's negative contribution to our
health has become a hot-topic in our lab. We are currently at a point in the
discussions where we either come up with a practicle answer to the problems
or a less-than-satisfactory solution will be put in place for us.
Unfortunately, I have no information to provide you, but if you receive any
responses that could be beneficial to my situation, I, and our entire
department, would be grateful.
----------------------------------------------
I hope that I've caught you first in response to your request for Alpine air
purifiers.
Contact Ranea Bricker at (616)649-3321 and tell her Jeff Griffin says you
deserve a discount. I lived in the same town as the Brickers; in Vicksburg,
Mi, and became great friends of theirs. They have sold at least 150 home
units and several business size filters. They have some fantastic stories
of how people have come to them looking for the air purifiers, yours would
be a great addition.
-------------------------------------------------------
I have used the Alpine Air ozone system for about five years with quite
acceptable results. Arnie Lund, CPO in Auburn, CA turned me on to it.
The ionization features theoretically drop dust from the air...unfortunately,
they drop just about anywhere and create as much of a problem on surfaces as
we all experience anyway.
The O3, however, is another story...it kills odors very effectively by
combining chemically with the vapor, turning it into compounds of CO2.
Arnie used it to kill the odor of contact adhesives such as Barge, etc. I
have used it to kill the odor of acrylics, adheasives, acetone, wood smoke
(from dull band saws...!), etc.
They are sold via a multi-level marketing program so the initial units are a
bit pricy...I happen to have an account as I bought a couple to experiment
with. If you're interested, I can get you some info...I think I can find it
around here somewhere.
-------------------------------------------------
I've tried the Alpine system for a while at home, but the ozone smell made
us feel sick and returned it.
As Tom eluded the Alpine brand was sold on a multi-level business format.
All of the people I knew who were once in it, have stopped. Not sure why,
other than the fact that many hardware and department stores like Wallmart
are now selling similar units for a fraction of the orginal price.
-----------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry I haven't heard any information regarding the System you mentioned
but I am interested in any hits you get. I too am concerned about the
expensive venting units and other devices needed to control our indoor
atmospheres in O & P. Thanks ahead of time for sharing any information you
may send my way.
