Again a theory full of holes! Your suggestions are becoming more of the problem than beginnings of solutions.
You yourself exclaimed If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem........

George Boyer, your negativity toward detering a more accountable profession thru regulation and establishing mandatory educational and clinical and technical experience, will not dilute possible solutions.

You are part of the problem in attacking all certified practitioners.Certification quidelines that are the only standards that exist today. I agree that are not enough! Regulation can build on those standards and open up coverage for many that fall between the cracks!!What is good for the consumer will be good for the profession.

As to your surgeon/resident analogy, what if the surgeons knowledge is lacking to modern techniques??
Problem is that there are only about half a dozen surgeons in this country whom have the expertise and desire to have applied proper amputation surgery. Most surgeons regard amputation surgery as personal failure.Failure to save the limb from traumatic cause or failure of their profession to stop the disease that resulted in removing the limb. Most of them cant spell prosthesis!

The doctor stops the bleeding, saves a life but the patient dies anyway from nuromas caused from bad surgery or not having proper O&P coverage to be properly rehabilitated in spirit and body. No prosthetist in the world can relieve pain with a prostheses from improper amputee surgery. I meet them everyday in the Foundation's work. But I also have the honor ,priviledge and reward of assisting amputees in acquiring new lifes and new hope. You must work constructively within the system for change.
If you wont help get the hell out of the way!

Why dont you take on the AMA George! Stop attacking the O&P profession of people ,who outside of the few carpet baggers and scammers, really want to help people. Most of them want and deserve a professional license to practise this health care profession. Some of us out here are making things happen to better lifes of people. Our efforts may not measure up to your standards and may not be the quik fix or perfect solution but it's a start.

What have you done lately to help this cause except be critical and complain and demand a amputee union? Who is going to lead the organization.Certainly not you with this all or nothing approach. I tire of your meaningless rhetoric that seems to escalate when you know you may have two listserves as an audience ! Get a life George ! You seem to be an intelligent man .Why not spend that energy on a meaningfull purpose like helping your fellow man?? You are an angry man George.
Are you mad you lost your leg ?Are you mad at yourself, your prosthetist and your doctor.
Make the best of life George.Help others help themselves. You'll find yourself to be a happier man!

----------
No, Dan - orthopedic residents have their hands in the work alongside of
the (master) surgeon under whom he is working. This is the way to
learn: the resident learns the work of surgery and the surgeon learns
the skill and the talent of the resident.
