I have just learned that the company the O&P National Office has outsourced
their national meetings to is making inquiries regarding receiving
commissions on hotel rooms during the Reno Assembly. Are they doing this on
their on behalf or that of AOPA?

Although this is not an illegal practice, it certainly is unethical if it is
not made public that the cost of our hotel rooms will increase by 10% so that
the hotel can pay this money to AOPA or use it to offset costs of doing
business at that hotel.

Doesn't anyone care that the National Office is still trying to milk us of
even more money. Regardless of whether or not they claim this is the cost
of doing business as they did when ABC started accepting advertising in the
Registry, it seems that they'll be increasing their revenue without any
reduction in price for the meeting or dues.

If AOPA is not behind this and their outsourcing company is, is this the type
of organization we want representing us? Is outsourcing really the way to
go? Do we know how much money is being saved by not hiring staff to perform
functions that for the most part were working well when we did have them
staffed? I think we need to look very closely at the way the National Office
is being managed. Instead of it leading us into the future, we need to
look at who's running it to see if they are capable of this task.
