Yes Roy I think you are going to open a HUGE can of worms.

I guess its a matter of choice. I have diabetes I am NOT
a diabetic. I would never dream of referring to a prosthesis
user as an amputee (ignoring any factors of it being
inaccurate in many cases).

Patients are treated, while users are fitted, provided with,
catered for, and the only treatment is respect. However, as
long as exo-prosthetics is often part of the patientcare
system the tendancy to call all such users patients is
there.

The key is the respect. I believe that the word patient
does imply a level of respect that amputee or diabetic
does not. Clearly Ms. Barreda does not feel the same way.
