Crip, like gimp is usually an acceptable term only when self-applied.
Now in the U.S.of A., one had best be doubly careful, as a Crip can be the
kind that dresses in blue and hates all Bloods who dress in red. (Gang
member.)

I did once have a real Crip as an inpatient on the rehab unit, injured in
the course of his usual daily activities in this capacity, who would
NOT use a red wheelchair. I suspect that could well be considered an
important consumer perspective to understand.
