I have duplicated hands from alginate.

A good material for creating a positive from alginate is Alumilite, a
castable urethane that's really cool stuff. It kicks off in about 2
minutes once mixed. Even looks like flesh and will pick up all the
definition in the alginate. You can then duplicate again and again from
alginate, or a soft silicone mold could be poured around the Alumilite
also, then you can duplicate the Alumilite in the silicone mold maybe 50
times wihtout degradation. It's made in Kalamazoo, MI. There phone
