Charles,
First off, thank you for your response regarding consolidation. Secondly, I
would like to address a couple of issues in your response. My concerns were
far less high minded than I would like to take credit for. They were rather
short and sweet. I remember our organizations attempting consolidation in the
past - ACPORS. Whatever the reasons were for consolidation at that time aren't
all that important. The fact that we, the voting membership, voted against
consolidation is the important issue. Why must we now go through the same
process again? Unless I'm totally missing something, it seems the
organizations are again getting ready to spend a great deal of money and time
for the same thing. Now that's what I call a duplication of efforts!
I do trust the board of directors that I voted for, as should all members. If
I didn't, they wouldn't have received my vote. I also trust they will work
toward the benefit of the organizations they were elected to serve.
You mention that the presidents, presidents elect, and immediate past
presidents of AAOP, ABC, and AOPA along with representatives from NCOPE, were
tasked with the responsibility of shepherding the issue through the process of
gaining board and membership approval. Who tasked them? When were they tasked?
And at whose expense were they tasked? These may sound like frivolous and
unimportant questions but they aren't to me. These are the thoughts that
prompted my, admittedly inappropriate, remark of being railroaded. These are
very simple questions that can be answered without too much hoopla - just who,
when, and how much is all I ask.
Now if these are questions that should not be asked then I will retract them,
and sit back to watch how things play out. I will only ask one more question -
why shold I not be asking?
The entire membership does not always have the opportunity to read every fax
that comes into their facility, to look at every piece of mail sent to the
facility, nor do they always have the luxury of attending all conferences,
seminars, or think-tanks. For most, we take that leap of faith you mentioned.
Sorry I didn't jump as far as I should have this time.
Nufsed,
More than my opinion this time!
