At the time, my stepdad was in the military, so all of the bills were taken care of by good ol' Uncle Sam. I returned here to Arkansas, which is my home state, after I was released from the hospital to complete my rehab. I went to Arkansas Children's Hospital, where I was fitted for and recieved a prosthesis. Because of the fact that my family was in the process of moving to Oklahoma, my prosthesis was made 3 inches too long. Therefore, I was unable to learn to walk correctly. I thought the whole time that it was my fault and I wasn't doing anything right, so I gave up and outgrew it. I got married when I was 17 and so I was taken off of my stepdad's insurance. It didn't matter anyways, because they said they wouldn't cover another prosthesis for at least 3 yrs.
I would desperately like to have another prosthesis and another chance to learn to walk again. That has been a dream of mine ever since I lost my leg. . Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Shawna Stivers
