The Barr Foundation recieves about 50 inquires month for financial assistance in obtaining prosthetics.As a matter of interest I thought I would post the following message for OANDP subscribers.This new policy is good news for the disabled and has been possible mostly due to the most recent successful regulation effort of O&P practitioners led by the Florida Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists and various consumer groups.
Apparently some O&P providers, nursing homes, social workers and hospitals in Florida are not fully aware that Medicaid has extended O&P benefits to recipients over 21 years of age.
Effective July 1, 1998, Medicaid will expand the current coverage of augument recipients age 21 and over. AAC services require prior authorization. Medicaid will expand current coverage of O&P codes for recipients age 21 and over. Covered L&V codes are located in the DME coverage and LIM handbook.
Other questions should be directed to the State Medicaid Tallahassee office or one of the area program offices.
