SUMMER OF 1999 ???

Thanks to all those who confirmed my test message yesterday. Now, cutting
to the main event..............
Dear OandP-L subscribers,
It is the custom for students of the BSc(hons) Undergraduate degree in
Prosthetics and Orthotics at the National Centre for Training and Education
in Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCTEPO), University of Strathclyde, Glasgow,
Scotland, to undertake a Field Trip after the completion of Third Year
studies. This Field Trip takes the form of an excursion outside the United
Kingdom over a two week period, accompanied by a Course Lecturer. The
possible dates for excursion on our Field Trip will be over a two week
block, between the dates of the 28th of June and the 8th of August, 1999.
We intend for our Field Trip to be of some practical use, for ourselves as
an educational and developmental experience and for the organisation
(commercial or non-commercial) which will gain the benefit of our labours
over a two week period at any location, Worldwide. It is the intention,
therefore, that the Field Trip is based around a Project, connected in some
way with the fields of Prosthetics, Orthotics or Rehabilitation generally.
We are fifteen individuals, ages ranging from 18 to 32. Existing skills
within the group include qualified electrical and electronic engineering,
mechanical engineering, radio comms operation, ex-services personnel etc.,
over and above those of your average group of young, fit, intelligent and
well-organised people! Languages spoken by individuals include English,
German, French and Spanish.
The Field Trip 1999 Committee has been formed to develop the itinerary,
financial backing, travel arrangements and control administration of the
Trip. We invite Responsible individuals within those fields of Prosthetics,
Orthotics or Rehabilitation to provide input under the following headings:
PROJECT:
Do you have a task which requires to be completed or carried out but can't
afford or generate the manpower? This scope of this task may range from
data gathering for a scientific paper, to the provision of Aid to those in
need, to help in the construction and development of a clinic, at any
location Worldwide. This task must have some official backing and finance
for any materials required for completion of the task. All suggestions will
receive a reply. We will work with the selected organisation to develop
the logistics of the task if this is required. To allow for travel to the
location of the task, we provisionally suggest that the site-specific
aspects be planned for completion within 10 consecutive days and occur
between the 28th of June 1999 and the 8th of August, 1999.
FINANCE:
We require finance for travel and living expenses, accommodation and
subsistence. Locally we are generating funds through development of
commercial services, sponsorship for events and fundraising activities. We
also invite donations from any individuals and organisations, in return for
which we will publicise your Service or organisation by means of T-shirt
and banner advertising, newspaper, radio and TV publicity. The type, scale
and location of project undertaken will very much depend upon the amount of
financial backing we receive. Please Give Generously!!
TRAVEL/ACCOMMODATION:
Naturally we will plan for these expenses dependent upon the nature and
location of the Project. If, however, your organisation has the logistical
base to provide some help in provision of travel or accommodation then it
may be possible to increase the scope of the Project or extend the Field
Trip duration if this is required.
On behalf of the Committee, I thank you for your attention thus far and
look forward to receiving your replies.
All the best,
Jim Beaumont,
Secretary, Field Trip 1999 Committee,
