Hello to all members! My name is Bobby and I am pursuing my
prerequisites for the BS program in O&P at University of Washington.
I still have a year and a half before I am ready to apply. I have
been in the field of Orthotics for approximately six years working for
the government. I would like to achieve the status of ABC certified
PO, but I will have to quit my $35,000 a year job and move my small,
young family to Washington State. I am concerned about the move with
costs and etc... I would like advice from previous program graduates,
salary expectations for CPO's in the US today with six to eight years
experience, suggestions on how to get the best job once I graduate,
and just about any other info that would be beneficial. Are there
companies that will aid students in my situation? I called Novacare
one time about four years ago and they said if I want to work for them
they would start me out at $8.00 an hour and see what I can do. Right
now I make double that with benefits of being the boss. I enjoy
working for the government, but it is time for me to excel in my
career. If you can respond with comments on the profession and
expectations for the future of the profession I would greatly
appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
