My original question was:
Does anyone have information on a source for a device called a L'nard
splint. It is a bivalve AFO type device with a walking sole. I suspect
that this is simply a incorrect spelling of a Leonard splint, a total
contact healing boot developed by Dr. Leonard at the University of Michigan,
but I wanted to check to be sure.
Thanks
The responses I have received:
------------
Hello
That is what we call here a crow walker or total contact boot. There are a
couple of places where you can have them made. The one I know of is becker
orthopedic. There is one in CA but I do not know there name or location. Of
course you can make your own but I do not think it is worth the time spent
in doing so. Hope this helps

Ted,
In the metro Detroit area, my encounter with L'nard boots are that they are
synonymous with prafos, multipodus, multiboot types for heel decubs and foot
positioning.
P.T.'s will generically order L'nard (Leonard?) boots, and the above devices
are generally accepted.
If there is a more extensive ready made device by this name, I'm not aware of
it.
Take care.......

L'nard is specific brand of a recubent positioning splint to hold the ankle at
90, keep pressure off the heel, and provides a non-skid sole better suited for
transferring than ambulating. Call my shop if you would like the phone number
of the weasels, I'm off for a few days. There is another device that is in my
opinion superior to the L'nard boot. It is called a flex boot. You can also
get their # from my shop. L'nard Co was instrumental in over using and abusing
the code that describes it by selling direct to nursing homes and anyone that
would issue a P.O.. I refuse to deal with them. Be careful in billing this
device and the code you use, it is my understanding that they are not being
paid for, or at least at a level that allows any profit.
Good luck, Steve Williams

Ted,
The L'Nard Splint is manufactured here in Clearwater. I will look in the
yellow pages tomorrow (if my brain remembers!) get you an adress and telephone
number. Also, I beleive the designer was Bob Leonard or something to that
effect.
Take care,
Joe

The L'Nard boot is a posterior positioning splint with a sheepskin boot
like the PRAFO (only not as good).

Thank you to all who responded, including Pete at Cascade who phoned with
contact info. Turns out L'nard is the former name of the manufacturer. The
L'nard splint is actually the Multi-Podus splint.
Thanks again
