Hi.
I'm doing some research into Heterotopic Ossification (HO) and
amputations, so I have a few questions for the prosthetists on this
mailing list regarding HO. I hope you'll be able to help me out with
this.
a) Are you familiar with this condition? Whether your answer is yes
or no, please let me know. An important part of my research is
determining what percentage of prosthetists have even heard of or
encountered this condition in their practices.
b) How frequently do you see patients with HO associated with their
amputation (not HO in areas unrelated to their amputation)? If you
could estimate both what percentage of your patients have HO and their
total number, that would be most helpful.
c) Of those patient you see with HO, how often does it cause problems
with prosthetic FITTING? Would you consider these to be major or minor
problems?
d) Of those patient you see with HO, how often does it cause problems
with prosthetic WEARING or FUNCTION? Would you consider these to be
major or minor problems?
If you are familiar with any literature regarding HO and amputation,
please let me know. I have been unable to find any references to HO in
amputees (but plenty of references about HO with hip replacement, etc.).
Thank you! I really appreciate your help with this!!!
