Vancouver company leads the way in disability market research
Vancouver, Canada - January 16, 1998
Vancouver based GB Communications is proud to announce the availability of
the results from the first ever world wide web survey of amputees.
The purpose of the survey was to evaluate customer and product satisfaction
in regard to prosthetic facilities and commonly used prosthetic componentry.
Whilst such surveys are commonplace in most other sectors of customer
relations, the prosthetic industry has continually suffered from a lack of
up to date market research on its consumers. This lack of accurate
information is due to several factors, one of which is patient/provider
confidentiality, resulting in the amputee being a very hard consumer to
reach.
The survey questions ranged from asking about consumer knowledge of
prosthetic componentry to satisfaction with individual prosthetists and
service providers. The standard, education, income, age etc. also formed
part of the survey.
Over 100 amputees completed the questionnaire over a three month period.
The questionnaire was originally made available via the Amputee WEB Site,
the most popular amputee oriented web site on the net.
According to GB Communications General Manager Ian Gregson,
The prosthetic limb market is a billion dollar per year industry in North
America. However market research on consumers is vague and
out of date at best.
The internet enables market research to be performed on otherwise hard to
access niche groups. The amputee population has never been surveyed in
this manner before and the results of this survey are going to reveal some
interesting statistics about the prosthetic industry and the consumers
perception of an otherwise professionally dominated sector of commerce.
Gregson himself has been an above knee amputee since 1978 and is a former
employee of the Angus Reid Group, Canada's largest market research company.

The compiled results are expected to be available in the first week of
February, 1998.
