I am an Honours student currently investigating the effects of AFO
stiffness on knee stability during gait. To test if there is any
relationship between these two factors I used a metal AFO with double
action joints. Different types and numbers of springs were used to increase
the stiffness of the AFO. I found that after a short period of wear, the
springs decreased in length. I was wondering if anyone has had problems
with this occuring in clinical practise, where early spring breakdown has
occured. Do you find that you replace ankle joint springs very quickly?
I would be greatful for any replies
