Jerry.......... In response to your post below, both the Hosmer metal
flexible elbow hinge joints and the darcron/nylon flexible elbow hinge
joints are really intended for someone with a longer than 4 residual limb
where retention of active supination/pronation is possible.
If no active supination/pronation is achievable within the fitting of the
prosthesis and interface, I would strongly recommend the use of Hosmer
Single Axis, Stainless Steel, Elbow Hinges. These hinges can be used
very effectively with a modified supracondylar suspension
interface/socket (NU Type, Otto Bock Type, etc.) to provide M/L
stability when needed and in cases where heavy lifting is essential. In the
case you have described, for an aggressive heavy duty user, this would be
the best possible choice based on my personal experiences.
Hope this is of some help!!........... John :)

Can anyone comment on the Hosmer Metal Flexible Hinges for a Below
Elbow Prosthesis? The particulars of my case is I have 4 below the
elbow joint to my stump, I use a 6X work hook, and a modified Muenster
Socket. I often lift heavy weights and put my device through a lot of
abuse.
I'm thinking about switching my Nylon Web Hinges for metal hingers as
they seem far more durable and practical. My nylon web hinges are
delaminating, fraying and get filthy dirty in very short time and are
very impractical for my situation. I'm not familiar with any other type
of metal hinge device but I'm open for suggestions. Any information
would be greatly appreciated.
