SWASH has
been fitted extensively in Europe and is just now being introduced in
the
U.S., on a controlled limited basis. It is particularly beneficial
for
small C.P. children who can walk with a walker but experience scissor
gait.
It also helps many CP kids to sit without having to use their hands
or an
assistant for balance. I do have a video available for loan. There
will
be a short scientific presentation at the upcoming AOPA meeting. The
product and video will be shown in booth #421. There will also be a
scientific presentation at the national C.P. meeting in Montreal Sept.
17-20. Please e-mail me at <Email Address Redacted> ; fax
301/948-6842; or call me at 301/519-9500 for details and more
information.
The brace is sold by CAMP Scandinavia, a Swedish supplier of
ortho/prot components and equipment. Being at home, I don´t have their
phone or fax. I feel certain that they have a home page, though. If
you can´t find it, e-mail me back and I´ll find the numbers for you.
I haven´t used the brace on any of my patients yet, but it semms
promising for selected patients. Obviously, too severe spastic
behaviour will not be the ideal environment for the brace. But it
would certainly serve as an alternative to plaster for maintaining
op-results.
With kind regards,
Kjell-Ake Nilsson, CPO at Linkoping University Hospital, Sweden.
Jim,
Please start by visiting the web site: www.campscandinavia.se. There is
product information on SWASH there. Unfortunately, I am currently out of
literature and the video but expect to receive more Monday, October 6th.
After reviewing the information on the web site, if the video would be of
interest, please let me know your mailing address and I will ship you one
at no charge as soon as I receive them.
