Colleagues,
I wanted to check in with the group here to identify individuals that have
experience with bracing in under served populations outside of the United
States that I could chat with on their experience. A bit of background
information is that last night I went to dinner with one of the Orthopedic
surgeons we work in Cerebral Palsy clinic, as well as the team from STL
that runs the World Pediatric Project. WPP is a non profit group from STL,
MO and also Richmond Virginia. Their mission is to work with kids with CP
in the area of St Vincent serving Barbados, St. Lucia, and St Kitts. They
make a trip in September and also April every year and provide surgeries
for ankle lengthenings, etc. They have identified that the missing piece
here is bracing, an Orthotist, as well as manufacturer. We discussed topics
from retrofitting braces, to casting and delivering, to setting up training
to train locals to assist as well. I would love to discuss involvement or
experience other Orthotists may have and also ideas for to dos and not to
dos in this venture. Thanks in advance for any and all input,
