Hello Listmembers,
Six years ago I fit and delivered a 70 yo female with her first KAFO
promarily to address her significant recurvatum. It was an SPL-2 stance
control design and she did well with it. It did let her go into some
recurvatum.
Subsequently, she returns due to weight loss so I recasted her and
made a new on which is a more intimate fit.
Not unexpectedly, she is having a difficult time time getting used to it. I
incorporated an adjustable posterior recurvatum control strap above the
proximal calf trimline. If it's adjusted too loose, it lets her knee go
back and she feels uncomfortable pressure behind her knee. If I tighten
the strap, she feels less stable although she knows logically that the
orthosis blocks flexion of her knee.
How have you solved this posterior pressure issue? Have you seen
patients become accustomed to this new alignment?
Thanks,
