Dear list members, for those that remember him and for his contributions to the O&P field, I wanted to let you know that my father, Jim Smith, passed away Friday morning. I have copied and pasted a message my sister Christy wrote on social media:

It is with much love and sadness that our family had to say good bye to my father James Earle Smith yesterday, February 22 at the age of 80. He was husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to so many. He was also a Veteran with the United States Marines.
Jim was also a great businessman who got his professional life started in sales in his 20’s. He worked in the Orthotic and Prosthetic industry most of his adult life starting out with Camp and then going into the family business at Knit Rite in Kansas City. In the 80’s he and Joy Smith (mom) started Jim Smith Sales. I started working their in 1987 and my brother Kyle came on in 1994. We ran this business together until 2008. It was his pride and glory as it was for us all.
We will all miss him but after a valiant battle with cancer the last few months and after years of also struggling with CHF and diabetes it was time for him to find peace. He drifted away peacefully yesterday morning.
There will be no services or obituary at his request. We are going to set up a memorial fund in his name and will share that information soon. We had all the family in town this past weekend and he had a wonderful time at, as he called it, his “going away party”.
He will be missed. We love you Dad!
