Are there any knee joints (other than Becker 1017) that have options for
VERY large patients? My patient is 5’10” 320 lbs, still very active long
time KAFO user (12+ years). He is new to our practice. His KAFOs always
need repair “because they break all the time”. He has always worn a free
motion knee joint, but I was hoping to find a safer option for him since
increased myopathy is causing him to fall frequently. He says he
“absolutely does not” want a lock on his brace because he tried one and
couldn’t unlock it to “do everything I need to do”. I don’t think that is
realistic for his current functional levels, but I told him that I’d ask
around. Any thoughts?
Thank you.
