Hello List,
I have a patient/physician request I have not previously encountered and I am hoping some of you might share what you have done in a similar circumstance.
The patient lives part of the year in Wisconsin and part of the year in Illinois. He has podiatrists in both areas. His podiatrist in Wisconsin has had custom shoes and AFOs fabricated for this patient. They were not ready prior to his return to Illinois. The Wisconsin podiatrist supposedly wants to send the patient his shoes and braces and have our facility fit them. The Illinois podiatrist wants our facility to fit the the shoes and braces and has written an order for this. We have never seen the patient. We will not be billing for the shoes or braces.
This seems like a bad idea to me on several levels--liability, reimbursement, etc. Has anyone had a similar situation and, if so, what did you do?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
