11yr old with painful hyperflexible feet and she falls frequently with Ehlers-Danlos and mild ataxic CP. Pt came in wearing custom arch supports. After discussing with mom and physician, we agreed to fit with Surestep Big Shots. Pt was safer and fell less frequently but also became quite sedentary using the SMOs. Without them, much more active but the frequent falls return. Previous bracing includes custom arch supports and SMOs. I am experienced in treating both of these pathologies but not in combination. Biomechanically, I can control the foot and ankle but at a cost. I have some thoughts on this case but I would like to ask the list for advice. Goals are; reduce pain and fall risk without sacrificing function. Family is engaged, cooperative and compliant.
