Dear listserv,
I hope you all enjoyed a restful weekend!
Next week, I have a new client coming in from out of town who requires a
custom, unconventional prosthotic approach (hence this O&P crowdsourcing
email for ideas). He is a 50yr old male who underwent bilateral amputation
surgery following a work accident approx 20 years ago. He has a
hemipelvectomy amputation on one side, and a short transfemoral amputation
on the other. He is currently utilizing a custom bi-valve thermoplastic
bucket lined with aliplast that was made many years ago, however is no
longer serving its purpose. I am unsure about how satisfied he has been
with his current setup.
In anticipation of next week, I come to you seeking advice on:
1) Eval considerations
2) Casting methods
3) Fabrication/ design tips (what has worked for you?)
4) Billing advice - he has work comp insurance, and from what I understand
they have been very accommodating to his needs in the past. I believe a 99
code is most appropriate in this case, but am wondering what specific $$
amounts you believe would be appropriate?
I have some ideas in mind, but am curious to hear what has worked (or not
worked!) for you!
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, time is of
the essence as I see him on Tuesday, 8/28 I'd be happy to share his
outcomes with the group (or individuals) if there is interest.
Thank you!
