Question to the list, Trevor Townsend CPO just had a discussion regarding t-shirts to patients. It seemed to me the overall consensus was gifts must be less than $15each and less than $75/year. We have a company in Alabama which provides transportation services to amputees to their facility for the patients appointments. This company in the past provided air fare site seeing meals etc...I would think transportation with a van and a driver exceeds $15 per occurrence. These transportation services are marketed to doctors to gain referrals. Is this legal for Medicare, Medicaid and Medicare HMO patients?? What about private insurance carriers? It would seem illegal to me but I would appreciate opinions on this matter?
