Dear All List members,

Good day to you all!

I would highly appreciate if you guys could help me with the confusion i have regarding the below mentioned question. I would certainly re-post the replies from everyone (without mentioning the name if asked)

q) I am getting many patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis for spinal bracing. But in most of the patient i have observed Apparent (False) Shortening; which is sometimes 1.5 - 2 cm. This LLD i have seen in almost all the curves like single lumbar, Single thoracic and double thoraco-lumbar curves.

here my questions are

a) do we need to compensate the LLD while giving the spinal brace for correction?

b )will this LLD compensation reduce, Increase or affect the correction of Curve?

One of the professional told that Apparent (False) shortening should be compensated by half the measurement. I am not sure if this is correct. Someone told me that True compensation (Bony) should be compensated and apparent shouldn't be.

I would highly appreciate , if someone would share research papers of these questions with me.

I hope i would get positive responses from all for the sake of patient benefit, as i am seeing many scoliosis patient and want to give the best treatment.

Thanks in Advance
