I wanted to share this opportunity with the group in case you wish to participate.
I am privileged to be participating in a charity ride in Israel that will be supporting an incredible organization in Israel, called The Next Step. They assist folks who only receive basic prosthetic care from the national insurance carriers. Here is a link to learn more about them. <URL Redacted>
Below, is a moving story about a young lady named Tehila who received assistance from The Next Step.
On the morning of November 20, 2000, Tehila got onto a school bus traveling from Kfar Darom, a small town in Gush Katif, to her school in Nveh Dkalim. Minutes after the bus left the gate, a roadside bomb exploded and tore apart the bus. Two of the teachers on the bus were killed immediately and thirty children suffered various degrees of injury.
On the bus with Tehila were her siblings, Orit, then 12, and Yisrael, then 7. Orit lost her right foot and Yisrael lost his right leg. Due to her close proximity to the bomb, Tehila’s injuries were more severe and she lost both of her legs. She was hospitalized for a long period with numerous surgeries and a long rehabilitation process.
Tehila is being fitted with a new pair of prosthetics through The Next Step - U.S. Fitting Program, that will enable her to have functional legs that are as close to “the real thing” as possible.
After receiving her Masters in Social Work, Tehila became a social worker, currently working with special needs children. She hopes she can be more productive and active once she is fitted with the new prosthetics.
I am sharing a link for you to help support the cause. Your assistance is very much appreciated.
